Welcome to the Silverton Country Historical Society
and Museum of Silverton, Oregon
Silverton's Founding Mother, Polly Crandall Coon Price
In the early 1850’s Beaford Smith built a sawmill on Silver Creek, near where city hall is today.  Next to this new mill was the Donation Land Claim of Polly Coon, widow of Thomas L. Coon, who created and registered the first town plat for Silverton, Oregon, with the Marion County surveyor’s office in 1854.  She started selling lots, and the rest is history.  The following year, in 1855, she married Steven Price, a local sawmill owner.
Cusiter's merchantile at the  corner of Main and Water Streets, later Olson's Pharmacy and Weisners.
