Monday, April 20, 2009 – Silverton Museum 7:30 p.m.

For our April member program, we are pleased to present Amy Vandergrif of the Marion County Historical Society, who will tell us about their upcoming Oregon 150 event:  Marion County, 150 Miles for 150 Years.

The objective of the project is to encourage all of us to commemorate Oregon’s 150th birthday by visiting some of the many historic communities and sites within Marion County. The Marion County Historical Society has produced a brochure that serves as a “passport” for the event and provides a map of Marion County and suggested stops throughout the county.  From Aumsville to Woodburn, the passport offers historic destinations for everyone to visit in each community.

The brochure also contains a question about each location on the trip; you will be able to easily find the answer to the question as a way to document your visit.  The Marion County commissioners plan to recognize those who visit the most destinations by the end of summer 2009 at a public celebration.  Your completed passport must be registered by September 11. 2009 at:  mcoregon150@co.marion.or.us.

The Silverton Country Historical Society Museum will be one of the sites where interested parties can pick up their 150 Miles for 150 Years tour passport. We are very excited to be a participant in this project.  Be sure to join us on Monday, April 20th to learn more about the tour and also about a relay event that is scheduled to run through each of Marion County’s 20 cities and will take place over five weekends this summer.

See you then!
